Why Dr. Gathright thinks this program is important…
A clinician’s ability to explain, listen and empathize can have a profound effect on health outcomes as well as patient satisfaction of care. Moreover, communication amongst team members influences job satisfaction and quality of patient satisfaction, care, and most importantly, safety. I am privileged to be part of an institution that places value on communication and is investing in training their healthcare providers. I strongly believe that communication skills can be learned and improved upon through such training. This will provide a whole new way of connecting with patients and colleagues, and subsequently, providing for richer and more meaningful relationships with patient centered care and patient safety at its core.
