MASTER: Meet Your Facilitators

Michael Smith, M.D.
Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Dr. Michael Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He is an Arkansas native and began his medical education at UAMS. For residency, he trained in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, then returned to Little Rock to join Dr. Dora Smith, now his wife, on faculty at UAMS, where they have practiced for 7 years.

Why Dr. Smith thinks this program is important…

Caring for the obstetrics and gynecology population at UAMS, I interact with women in all stages of life and in circumstances from a joyous delivery of a newborn to the tough diagnosis of cancer. Communicating with my patients in the ways they need to understand their diverse medical problems is a necessary skill. I was honored when Dr Jan Shorey approached me to participate in this hospital-wide communication project, and I am enthusiastic and hopeful that the staff at UAMS will embrace this effort as a way to reach their patients more effectively.
