Why Dr. Tariq thinks this program is important…

I think so many of us in healthcare choose this path because we value the richness of the human experience- we want to be a part of it in a meaningful way. So much of that experience is based upon how we interact as professionals with our patients – and understanding the nuances of communication is what makes those interactions effective and rewarding for both patient and physician. When we are able to communicate effectively and humanistically with our patients, we achieve better patient outcomes and improved physician job satisfaction, but I think the benefits extend beyond those measures- We also become agents for social justice and patient empowerment.
