Interprofessional Mentoring Program

The next program cycle begins in March 2027.

The Interprofessional Mentoring Program is available to all UAMS faculty members. Participants are paired with a faculty member outside of their department. Mentees can seek guidance on personal and/or professional development. The program is structured to offer mentees access to small group focus workshops and the opportunity to learn more about their individual strengths. This structure provides mentees with the opportunity for personal insight and feedback from multiple perspectives on various topics, questions, and obstacles they experience.

What mentors are saying about the IPM program:

I wanted to take a moment to drop a note with my feedback of the IPM program. I have participated for almost two years now as a mentor and have sincerely enjoyed it. I have gained so much from my interactions with both of the mentees that were assigned to me and have heard directly from both how much the relationship has meant to them. It is such a unique offering and opportunity for faculty connection beyond what you would typically get within your immediate sphere of work (e.g., within division or department) and I can see myself participating in a program like this throughout my tenure as a faculty member. I really hope that it continues to be offered by UAMS. I simply love it and wanted to share gratitude for all those who support it!

Mentors:

  • Mentors are typically Associate or Full Professors
  • Mentors are matched with a junior faculty member outside their department
  • Time commitment: no more than six 1-hour sessions with your mentee, and a 1.5 hour virtual kick-off program
  • Logistics and scheduling assistance provided by the Center for Faculty Excellence
  • Meet with your mentee in-person or virtually

What mentees are saying about the IPM program:

I am writing to share my reflections on my overwhelmingly positive experience as a participant in the IPM mentoring program at UAMS.

First and foremost, being matched with [name removed for privacy] was a truly fortuitous experience. Participating in this program has been one of the most important decisions I have made in recent years. His mentorship served as a true catalyst for professional growth and development, reflecting UAMS’s institutional commitment to supporting faculty advancement.

Throughout the program, [name removed] provided exceptional intellectual and technical guidance. He has been collegial, approachable, and exceptionally generous with his time. His critical feedback has been invaluable in helping me navigate the academic setting and develop professionally.

Thank you for instituting and supporting such a valuable initiative.

Mentees:

  • Intended for junior faculty or faculty new to UAMS
  • Mentees are matched with a senior faculty member outside their department
  • Program is tailored to fit your needs and your schedule
